Sixteen political parties in Ekiti State on Thursday adopted the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, for Saturday’s presidential election.
The political parties announced their position at a press conference held in Ado Ekiti and addressed by the representative of the African Democratic Congress, Tunjo Ogunlola.
The parties’ representatives, who spoke one after the other, promised to work for the victory of Buhari.
They described him as the best for the country.
While lamenting the high rate of insecurity and corruption in the country, the parties said they decided to pitch their tent with Buhari in the interest of all Nigerians.
The parties appealed to all eligible voters to actively participate peacefully in the electoral process and avoid anything that could truncate the process.
Ogunlola said: “We call on all political parties to remember the peace accord signed during the stakeholders’ meeting recently and to discourage their followers from all forms of thuggery and politics of bloodshed.
“We express confidence in the electoral umpire (INEC) in their bid to conduct credible, free and fair elections in the country.”
All the 16 political leaders signed the address read at the press conference.
The parties were MPPP, CPP, APA, SDP, UDP, AD, NCP, HDP, DPP, PPA, ADC, ACD, KOWA, ACPN, PDC and NNPP.
